Engraved Wood Board Care Guide
Properly caring for your piece conditions and preserves the board's natural grain and engraved artwork and allows the natural beauty to continue shining through. This guide shows you how to care for the products we create.
We include a care and maintenance card with every purchase. If your card has gone missing, not to worry! Use this guide to clean, dry, condition, inspect, and store your engraved wood board so you can keep enjoying its natural grain and original artwork for years to come.
Clean Engraved Wood Boards Safely
Gentle hand-washing removes food and residue from engraved wood boards without prolonged water exposure. After serving or preparing food, wash the board with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft cloth. Clean both sides and the edges. Do not soak or submerge the board, and do not put it in the dishwasher.
Use the unengraved side for cutting to protect the artwork from knife marks. If you prepare raw meat, poultry, or seafood, use a separate cutting board to reduce cross-contamination and follow current food-safety guidance for cleaning and sanitizing food-contact surfaces.
Remove Debris from Engraved Areas
Use a soft cloth or soft-bristled brush to remove crumbs and residue from the engraved areas of the board. Move the cloth or brush gently along the engraved lines. Do not scrape the design with a knife, metal brush, steel wool, or abrasive cleaning pad as these tools can scratch the wood and engraved surface.
Rinse and Wipe the Board
A brief clear-water rinse removes dish soap from the engraved wood board. Keep the board under light running water only as long as needed, then wipe the front, back, edges, handle, and engraved sections with a clean cloth. Do not leave the board soaking in a sink or allow water to collect in the engraving.
Dry Board The Completely
Dry the board immediately after washing and pat the entire board dry with a clean towel. Stand it securely on its edge in a ventilated area so air can reach both sides. Allow the board to dry completely before oiling or storing it.
Conditioning Food-Use Boards
The product's care card tells you how to condition a Blu Crescent Engraving board by using food-safe mineral oil. Apply the oil only after the board is clean and completely dry.
Preserving The Engraved Side
An engraved wood board needs food-safe mineral oil across the entire surface, including the engraved side. Use a clean, soft cloth to cover the front, back, edges, and engraved design. Let the board soak in the oil completely (overnight, or even a few days). Afterwards, check the board for any pooled oil and soak it up with a paper towel before storing the board.
Store Engraved Wood Boards Carefully
Clean, dry storage protects engraved wood boards from trapped moisture and potential damage. Store the board only after both sides and the engraved details have dried completely. The best practice is to stand it securely on its edge where air can circulate, and keep it away from damp areas, direct sunlight, and direct heat.
Keep Your Board Looking Great for Years To Come
Before each use, check for cracks and splinters — natural wood pieces are dynamic as they age and are used. Stop using the board for food if damage prevents thorough cleaning.
